PHOTOARCHIVIST.ORG is providing scalable custom solutions for the preservation and digitization of film negatives, photo prints, slides and workflow optimization for digital imaging. We implement digital asset management systems and archival storage for the longterm protection and access to image collections.

The German Archive Consultant, Carsten Schael, has over two decades of experience in analog and digital imaging. Recognizing the potential danger of film-based photography getting destroyed through insufficient storage and handling, he has concentrated on developing systems that meet the needs and the budgets corporate and institutional clients, as well as occasional private collectors.

His effective cross-cultural communication allows for a good understanding of the clients challenges and builds a basis for close cooperation with their staff and stakeholders. Carsten's technical expertise combined with decades of experience and a solid network of regional and international contacts has allowed him to develop custom solutions for his clients.

In 2009 Carsten was appointed as the Archive Director of the China Exploration And Research Society and served in this position for two years. His expertise was also sought on a number of comprehensive international archive projects since then. 

His passion for the preservation of visual history has led him to steer the planning and creation of the archive of the Foreign Correspondents' Club, Hong Kong. Since 2012 he is serving as the Convenor of the Archive Sub-committee of the FCC and is overseeing the ongoing process of preserving the club's heritage.
